The End of a Journey, The Beginning of a Memory

One of the last meaningful moments of this journey was when we joined the Halina, Umaykan! program at Mariano Marcos State University. Through this program, we learned basic Tagalog and Ilokano in a fun and engaging way filled with laughter, interactive activities, and even games that involved dance movements to Filipino songs. It was more than just a language class; it was a joyful space where learning felt alive and unforgettable.

The following day marked the closing chapter of our journey the Closing Program and Send-off Party for inbound SEA Teacher participants. On that day, we proudly wore our traditional Indonesian attire, carrying a piece of home with us. One by one, we shared our experiences stories of growth, challenges, and memories we created during our stay.

We celebrated the moment with laughter, music, and performances. I even had the chance to sing on my own, that is something I never imagined I would have the courage to do before this journey.

At the end of the program, we received souvenirs and three certificates signed by the university president and the dean. Among them, I was deeply grateful to receive a recognition for being “The Most Improved in Language” during the Halina, Umaykan! program. It was such a meaningful reminder of how far I had come.

Yet, along with happiness, there was also a quiet sadness. It felt unreal that 28 days had passed so quickly. A place that once felt unfamiliar had now become something I wasn’t ready to leave.

And just like that, the journey came to an end

not as a goodbye, but as a collection of moments I will carry with me wherever I go.

In 28 days, I learned that growth begins with courage,

that connection can be found across cultures,

and that sometimes, the most beautiful experiences come from stepping into the unknown.

Though I may leave this place behind,

a part of me will always remain here

in the classrooms, in the laughter, in the people I met,

and in the version of myself I discovered along the way.

Because some journeys don’t just take you to new places

they bring you closer to who you are meant to be.
